Using Pinch Pleated Drapes in the Home
Curtains (and other forms of covering) have been used on windows since the times when a window was merely a hole in the wall. However, the intended use for a curtain or drape has been evolving since that time. What once blocked a draft, then blocked the sunlight, then aided in the heating or cooling efforts of our homes, and then through the years has become a very important part of our style or décor, is the curtain or drape.
In addition, it’s highly likely that you’ll be able to find a covering for any window in your home regardless of your preferred style or taste for any room with a window, due to the large selection currently available. Curtains or drapes are now made almost in every type of material or fabric, with a very wide variety of designs or patterns (even the rods vary in design!), and they’re also made in varying degrees of thickness (of the fabric). They come in different numbers of panels, and there are different means to attach them to the rod or window. Although you will find that drapes and curtain are synonyms, for a window covering, you’ll find that when someone is talking about curtains they are typically talking about a lighter weight window covering, or drapes as being a heavier material type of window treatment used for decoration or décor as much as anything else.
With this in mind, drapes are commonly constructed out of the finest materials; elaborate drapery is often the bases for the look or feel of the entire room. To have lined drapes is not uncommon at all, for example. The lining can be part of the drapes or it can be there simply to complete the look (depending on the material chosen). Using a thick lining is a good way to block out unwanted sunlight and is often necessary when combined with a thinner material (since the thinner fabric won’t block out much light). In addition to this, using a lining is the best way to add extra insulation to a room during the colder times.
In addition to the different types of materials or fabrics used, the look of the drape can be changed by how the drape is constructed. For example, some people prefer flat design while others favour a ‘gathered’ (or ‘pinched’) look. Pleats of one kind or another have been used to change the look for years. One of the most popular yet a very traditional look in window treatments is the pinch pleated drape, as they always can be fitted into any decorating style. They can be made with lining or without, and look great in solid colors, floral patterns or even striped. A pinch pleated drape will offer a touch of elegance to any décor and any room.
Pinch pleat drapes are the drapes with gathers consisting of either two or three folds of material that are connected together. These drapes have a style that is timeless, changing the drapery rod is a great way to update or change the look of your window. Attaching a pinch pleated drape to the drapery rod can be done with rings, clips or pins. Just remember when measuring your window for these drapes how you attach them to the rod will affect the length the drapery will fall to. Note that it is not only drapes that can be given this ‘pinched’ effect – you’ll also find pinch pleat curtains readily available in most good stores.
