Finding the Right Arch Window Treatments for Your Home

Finding arch window treatments that are right for your home can be a difficult (but overall fun) challenge. You know you’ve found the right ones when they not only look good (in context with the rest of the room) but also serve the purpose that they were put there to do. Whether you’re simply revamping a window arch treatment or starting from scratch, there are a few rules (more like guidelines, actually) that you should try and follow to ensure that you maximize the potential of your arch window.

Firstly, above all, remember that whatever arched window treatments (whether they be curtains, blinds or whatever) that you choose are there for a purpose. That purpose is to block out light (when required and to maintain privacy (i.e. to stop people looking in through the windows).

It is almost highly important that you realize that arched windows are different from normal windows and that they require a different approach when covering. While they aren’t much more complicated, this is something that you need to keep in mind at all times.

Next, consider the room that your arch window treatments are going to go in. You need to think about the surroundings and how they will affect it. For example, If you’re putting some curtains up in the bathroom (where there’s a shower and/or bath), that room is likely to get quite steamy (from the hot water). Because of this, whatever arched window treatment you choose needs to be resistant to the moisture that’s created. Most other types of curtains never have to deal with this, so you may need to get something that’s a little different.

From a more general perspective, it’s important that you remember how much money you’ve got to spend so that you can set a budget and stick to it. Do this BEFORE you go out and buy anything and before you plan, so you know what you’re working with and also so you won’t have any nasty surprises at the end. There’s nothing worse than starting a project (such as creating a set of window treatments) only to find out that you can’t afford to finish it, and then to have it sitting around your home reminding you of your failure. Plan ahead to avoid this from happening.

Lastly, think about the size of your arch windows and how a window treatment will make them look. For example, if you have an extremely large window, you might want to try and reduce it (in looks only) by placing the curtain rod/blind inside the window frame itself. Conversely, if you have a small window and want to make it appear to be bigger (at least in proportion with the rest of the room) you might want to add arch window treatments that envelope the window by placing the curtain/blind rod on the outside (along the top is a good place to have it) so that the window treatment is bigger than the window itself.
