The Advantages of Using Vertical Blinds in an Office & How to Clean Them
So what are vertical blinds? To put it simply, they’re blinds that hang vertically (i.e. where each slat is hung from the top and unsupported at the bottom as opposed to where each slat runs across the blind). They are commonly found in offices, as window treatments for sliding glass doors and in many other places where a large window blind is required.
So what types of vertical blinds are there? The main types are fabric vertical blinds, sheer vertical blinds, wooden and vinyl vertical blinds.
The advantages of using them in an office are that they’re incredibly easy to install, cheap and easy to clean. Because most employees spend so much of their time sitting in the office, the light that comes in from the windows makes up for a large percentage of the total natural light that they get (in an average working week). Scientific studies have shown the importance on natural light in humans (since not being exposed to enough can affect how well you sleep), so having window treatments that let lots of light into the office is important.
The great thing about these blinds is that they can be drawn back completely during the winter (when the light is not as strong) to display the whole window and to let as much natural light in as possible. During the summer months (where the light is stronger and harsher) one can simply open the vertical blind slats so that they let some of light seep through the gaps. Such versatility is important in an office environment since it’s important to keep employees happy and healthy.
As with everything in the home, there are times when your vertical blind will need cleaning and looking after to get it back to its original brilliant best. So how do you clean such a blind? Well obviously it depends on the kind of blind that it is (i.e. what it’s made from), since different materials must be taken care of in different ways, and what works on one thing might damage another.
Whenever cleaning vertical blinds it’s best to start by removing all of the dust from them. This can be done by wiping them down with a damp cloth or by running a vacuum cleaner over them (whichever’s easiest). This will keep them looking fresh and new, and if your office space is cleaned regularly this is something that you should ask your cleaners to do for you. Removing stains and marks is a completely different thing, however, and each stain should be treated individually (since there is no universal way of dealing with them). Instead, consider what the stain was made with (Eg. was it coffee? Ink?) then also consider what type of material it was spilled on to work out the best way to go about dealing with it.
